Today, Year 2 enjoyed an exciting visit to West Boldon Lodge to take part in a fascinating Great Fire of London Workshop.

Throughout the day, the children became history detectives as they explored the events of the Great Fire of London. They worked together to sequence the key events, examined drawings and photographs, and discussed how the fire spread so rapidly through the narrow streets of London in 1666.

One of the highlights of the day was constructing their own model houses. The children then watched as the houses were set alight, helping them to understand first-hand how quickly the fire spread from building to building.

The children also stepped back in time by making their own bread and butter. They then baked the bread over a fire, discovering what cooking and food preparation would have been like in the seventeenth century.

The workshop was a fantastic hands-on learning experience, and the children demonstrated excellent enthusiasm, curiosity and behaviour throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of them and would like to thank the staff at West Boldon Lodge for providing such an engaging and memorable experience.
