What a fantastic day we had on our second school trip! The children enjoyed a range of activities during a fun packed and educational day. We looked at different robots, visited lots of planets in the planetarium, explored the open zone and enjoyed an amazing workshop! The children had great fun looking at the insects, plants and objects and discussing if they were alive or not. They even got a chance to look for alien life on other planets….Have a look through some of our photos to see how our day unfolded.
The children had a fantastic time on our visit to the museum yesterday. They enjoyed looking at historical sources and learning all about a local hero, Jack Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey Duffy. Jack was from South Shields and was an ordinary man who did extraordinary things in his life when he saved lots of people in the war. Children are learning all about significant people from the past and their achievements so this experience has really helped bring this to life. Today they have been writing recounts about their visit and what they learned – we are hoping to create a display to showcase their work very soon – watch this space!
What a fun packed week we have had so far! We have started a new book in Literacy called Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. Baby Bear has an exciting adventure when he makes a rocket and flies to the Moon before bath time. Children have enjoyed hot seating where they took on the role of Baby Bear and answered lots of interesting questions from their friends about the adventures he’d been on. Keep looking out for more of our work in the coming weeks when children will be writing their own character descriptions and writing the story themselves.
In DT we have made some FANTASTIC junk models including jet packs, space helmets and rockets! I’m sure you have enjoyed seeing your children’s masterpieces – we didn’t enjoy the aftermath quite so much… 🙂
Year 1 have enjoyed using marbles to paint with in Art. They have been looking at the different markings on the planets in our solar system and chose appropriate coloured cards and contrasting paints to create some wonderful colourful planets for our new display. Aren’t they wonderful? Pop into our cloakroom to see them on display!
