The Regional final, entitled “Tag2Twickenham” showed the high level of competition involved in this event. The team won two of their four group matches in a superb morning effort. However, this meant the prize of a national final at Twickenham was now beyond the team’s grasp. Nevertheless, the team kept enjoying their rugby in the afternoon group, made some great tags and scored plenty of spectacular tries. It was a lovely moment when the team were recognised with the “Fair play” award in the final presentation.
Several good performances in Durham meant that the team progressed to the Regional finals!
Three merry teams consisting of twenty six players walked with a spring in their step to Westoe RFC on a misty October morning. We warmed up enthusiastically as we waited for pool matches to begin. All of our teams performed with great energy and skill in an exciting morning’s rugby. There were tries, double tags, lots of mud and most importantly plenty of smiles and sportsmanship! Two of our teams reached the champions league pool in the afternoon as we played with such brightnesss that the mist cleared and the sun came out shining! Well done to all the players who gave their all on an enjoyable sporting day where all the teams were encouraged by fantastic family support.
Good luck to the parents cleaning the kits!
The children in Year 4 have really enjoyed their first taste of Tag rugby! It would be great to see them play in a festival at Westoe in the future.
Before this year’s tournament our three teams took part in after school training sessions to develop their skills. It certainly paid off as two our teams reached the Champions League stage of the tournament!
