Good luck to the six children (Cordilia Odile, Ava Elliott, Darcey Tullis, Leroy Velasco-Luckham, Stephen Curry and Hayden Steven) from St. Bede’s who are representing South Tyneside in County Athletics on Saturday. I am sure you will do our school and yourselves proud!
On arrival, our Sportshall Athletes were presented with number 5 team bibs; they then went on to put in stunning 5-star performances! They jumped, threw and sprinted their way to a brilliant team silver medals on the day; which saw us qualify for the County Final (January 2018) for a third year running!
Once again, the children thoroughly deserved their success through the commitment they’ve demonstrated in recent after school practises. I was extremely proud of the character they showed to achieve many personal best performances at the most important time.
During the presentation ceremony, our athletes were also awarded with their individual medals for their outstanding Cross Country performances at Bedeswell Park on the previous Saturday. First place golds went to Cordilia Odile, Leroy Velasco- Luckham and Darcey Tullis; silvers were awarded to Hayden Steven and Alex Connor while Holly Gaunt picked up a brilliant bronze.
What a 5 star afternoon – hope you enjoy the photographs!
Three teams from St. Bede’s qualified for the County Summer School Games event at Silksworth Sports Complex; more than any other school from Tyne and Wear. We had a team in the Y4 Tennis and the Y3/4 and Y5/6 Athletics competitions. It was wonderful walking around the Complex and seeing St. Bede’s children competing with a smile in every part of the arena.
At the beginning of the day, the children listened to an inspirational speech by Team GB Olympian Peter Bakare. He spoke about his great journey to becoming an Olympian, after overcoming serious injury problems. Peter encouraged the children to ‘aim high and reach higher’.
During the course of the day, all of the St. Bede’s children looked to live out his wise words. Demonstrating skill and relentless determination, our children went on to achieve some amazing individual and team accolades! In the Y3/4 Athletics, Darcey Tullis received a silver medal for accumulating the second highest points total for a Y3/4 girl. Meanwhile two Y6 boys, Jude Connor and Jake Waters were awarded gold medals for being the joint highest scoring boys at the event. Then to top it all off, we discovered that the Y5/6 team had won County Silver medals in the team event!
Well done to all twenty eight of our Summer Games athletes, who were all a credit to our school displaying the Olympic values; while they rose to the occasion to perform like young Olympians.
It was a proud end to the sporting year, especially our Y6 team members who completed their sporting journey with ‘Team St. Bede’s’!
